Blackmore's Night

Blackmore's Night is a Renaissance-inspired folk rock band led by Ritchie Blackmore (electric guitar and acoustic guitar) and Candice Night (lyricist and lead vocals).

The origins of the band lie in 1990 when Candice Night was working at a local New York rock music radio station. She first encountered Ritchie Blackmore, then with Deep Purple, at a soccer game in which he was playing. The two became romantically involved and discovered that they shared a passionate interest in the Renaissance.
After leaving Deep Purple in 1993 and recording the album Stranger in Us All in 1995, on which Night contributed backing vocals and some of the lyrics, Blackmore became interested in the idea of bringing Renaissance music to a contemporary audience. Night's personality and singing ability made her the natural choice as "frontwoman". In 1997 the pair were ready to launch the band, the name being a pun of their own names, and which would consist of themselves plus session musicians.
Their debut album Shadow of the Moon was an instant success, particularly in Europe. In subsequent albums, particularly Fires at Midnight, there was an increased incorporation of rock guitar into the music, whilst maintaining a folk rock direction. Over time, Candice Night has increasingly participated instrumentally as well as singing the vocals, and is competent in a wide variety of Renaissance instruments.
The group performs at Renaissance Fairs and Renaissance Festivals, as well as in stand-alone concert tours in appropriate venues including 'castle tours' of Europe, where they perform in historic surroundings for an audience dressed largely in period costume. The band has been successful enough to inspire a tribute band called Renaissance Night.

I Blackmore's Night sono una band folk rock ispirata al periodo rinascimentale, fondata da Ritchie Blackmore (chitarra elettrica e acustica) e Candice Night (testi e voce). Blackmore ha definito il suo genere di musica "rock rinascimentale".

Le origini della band risalgono al 1990 quando Candice Night lavorava in una stazione radio locale di New York e incontrò Ritchie Blackmore prima per lavoro, poi in una partita di calcio dove lui giocava con i Deep Purple. Tra i due nacque una relazione e scoprirono di essere entrambi interessati al Rinascimento.
Dopo aver lasciato i Deep Purple nel 1993 e aver registrato un album con i Rainbow chiamato Stranger in Us All nel 1995, per il quale Candice scrisse alcuni testi e cantò come corista, Ritchie si interessò all'idea di portare la musica Rinascimentale al pubblico contemporaneo. Candice fu la naturale scelta come cantante del gruppo, grazie alla sua personalità frizzante e al suo talento.
Nel 1997 la coppia fu pronta a fondare la band, il cui nome è la fusione dei loro cognomi. I componenti iniziali furono Blackmore, Night e alcuni turnisti; dopo qualche anno i membri si stabilizzarono nella formazione attuale.
L'album di debutto, Shadow of the Moon è stato un successo immediato soprattutto in Europa. Negli album successivi, soprattutto Fires At Midnight, c'è stata un progressiva introduzione della chitarra elettrica, nonostante i toni si siano mantenuti sul genere folk. Nel tempo Candice partecipò sempre più spesso alla strumentazione, pur continuando a cantare, ed è ora esperta di molti strumenti rinascimentali.
Il gruppo si esibisce in fiere e festival Rinascimentali, ma anche in tour individuali in teatri e castelli in Europa e Nord America. Le performance sono caratterizzate da una suggestiva ambientazione storica e dal forte coinvolgimento del pubblico: le prime file sono sempre riservate ai fan in costume.
La band ha avuto una notevole influenza, tanto da avere anche una tribute band chiamata Renaissance Night.
